FAMU TV News, SJGCMEDIA.Com and the School of Journalism will feature a 2026 Florida Legislative special.  FAMU journalism and public relations students are producing the multimedia project. The special will be featured on several publications, including SJGCMEDIA.Com, and on March 11, 2026, at 5 p.m., on Comcast channel 20. It will also be streamed live on SJGC.FAMU.EDU; the TV20 link

Professors Kenneth Jones and Ottavia Spaggari of Florida A&M University have collaborated to oversee the 2026 legislative session project.

“We saw an opportunity for students to be able to learn about the legislative process, about the impacts of public policy within the state of Florida through the various classes that we teach and the bills, the budgeting, and all aspects of it.” said professor Kenneth Jones

In addition to instructors’ input, students are breaking down legislative bills, making them easier to decipher. PR majors Shayla Jones and Tatyanna McCray are PR coordinators, and producers Alicia Adams, Elijah Lott and Valdemar Carnegie are producing the live viewing of the FAMU TV 20 News special on the legislative session.

“As a producer, collaborating with my team to make sure that we inform our audience about what’s going on in the world around them,” said senior Alicia Adams.

Students are covering various major bills, including HB 133, aiming to lower the age requirement for purchasing longarm firearms, and SB 368, which seeks to increase the percentage for expectant mothers seeking Medicaid. Additionally, other bills covering swimming lessons, sexual offenders, nurse practitioners prescribing medication, and more are being covered to help important news reach citizens locally and throughout the state of Florida.

Elijah Lott, a third-year student producer shared, “I hope that it informs people about what’s going on and the decisions being made about their lives. I hope that they watch, and go out to the poles and make a difference,” adding “they need to make their voices heard.”

The project features articles, podcasts, and social media posts to raise awareness and inform Floridians about current legislative bills pertaining to different areas such as health care, education, immigration, housing, voting, environmental factors, transportation, and more. The 2026 legislative special will air on March 11, 2026, on Comcast channel 20 at 5 p.m., and streamed on the SJGC.Edu, FamuTV 20 link.

All multimedia projects will be streamed on SJGC.FAMU.EDU
